designing inspired communities, one space at a time

Schematic design of destination restaurant
Funny story about this project;
Ten years after I provided the schematic design for this roundhouse-inspired restaurant, it was built adjacent to the only existing monument of the site's history as a rail yard, the turntable. Our team at Ankrom Moisan Architects proposed my design to a very receptive Folsom Historic Commission, but the economy stalled construction for years and I am delighted to see that the restaurant was built as I'd designed it. All photos are from Scott's Seafood social media pages and drawings are from our proposal.

Schematic design rendering of Historic District master plan originally presented to Folsom Historic Commission by our team. Pedestrian walkways ringed by shops weave through the site and culminate in a central "piazza" with a destination restaurant. The restaurant design responds to the reconstructed 1867 turntable, the only relic of the site's short 19th century history as a rail yard. Incredibly, the Commission discovered that I had sited the roundhouse restaurant in exactly the same location as the original roundhouse that was torn down in the late 1800's. Folsom's Farmer's Market is held here and the master plan creates an active, welcoming public space designed at a pedestrian scale to attract small businesses and support a thriving local economy.
