LIGHT STRAW CLAY Rural House
Columbia Gorge, Washington
2x6 construction with Light Straw Clay insulation (LSC), insulation,
exterior finish: lime plaster exterior | interior finish: earthen plaster
The home was designed as a work/live space for a couple deeply connected to the White Salmon River, which runs along the edge of their rural property, economically and physically. Committed to building in the most environmentally way possible, they felt LSC provided the purest of wall sandwiches available in a naturally fire resistant material. That is a major consideration in the Columbia Gorge, where so much of the forest has been lost to fires.
Watercolor vignettes provide a feel for the spaces
